Blackberries

She was gorgeous in her way

She was a caramel bouquet.

And for this, I knew not why

But she was prettier than I.

And the boys knew of this too

But she seemed not to have a clue

Like she knew not of her face

And so I asked her what’s her case.

“Do you think of yourself fair?”

“Do you not see the way they stare?”

“Do you know what I would do?”

“If I was beautiful like you”

She said, “Beautiful like me?”

“Are you not seeing what I see?”

She said “Girl you take that back”

“You are the perfect shade of black”
